Held each March in the turquoise waters of Saint Barthélemy, the Bucket Regatta is the Caribbean's most celebrated superyacht sailing event — a four-race series for the world's largest sailing yachts, paired with exclusive social events and the unmistakable glamour of St Barths.
The Bucket Regatta originated in Nantucket, Massachusetts, in August 1986, born from a spirited discussion among yacht owners about design and sailing prowess. Seven superyachts raced on an impromptu course, establishing a tradition centred on camaraderie and the pure enjoyment of sailing among like-minded individuals. The event flourished in Nantucket until 2001, then moved to Newport, Rhode Island, from 2002 to 2014. St Barths hosted its first Bucket Regatta in March 1995, and the island has since become the event's spiritual home.
While the size of the yachts and the competing fleet have grown significantly — often exceeding 40 superyachts — the core spirit of the event remains unchanged. Organisers meticulously maintain its non-commercial ethos, extending invitations to individuals who share a passion for sailing and the unique camaraderie it fosters. The regatta is renowned for attracting some of the world's most notable sailors and superyachts, yet it prioritises the pleasure and enjoyment of the sailing superyacht owner above all else.
The social programme is as celebrated as the racing itself. The final Awards Party, held at the Hôtel de la Collectivité, brings together owners, captains, and crew in an atmosphere of genuine warmth and celebration. St Barths provides the perfect backdrop: white-sand beaches, chic hotels, and a French Caribbean joie de vivre that transforms a sailing competition into an unmissable lifestyle event. For those fortunate enough to receive an invitation, the Bucket is simply the finest week in the yachting calendar.
